Stop Killing Journalists!
The American Committee for the Protection of Journalists (CPJ) has reported that over 180 Palestinian journalists have been killed during military operations following the murder of Israeli citizens by Hamas terrorists in October 2023. The journalists were killed by Israeli forces.
Most recently, a crew from Al Jazeera, the Qatari television station was killed. These were correspondents Anas al Sharif and Mohammed Qreiqeh, and cameramen Ibrahim Zaher and Mohammed Noufal. The Israeli military has admitted they were the target of its attack, claiming that the 28-year-old al Sharif was a member of Hamas and therefore a terrorist. No evidence of this has been released by the Israeli Defence Force.
Al Jazeera reports that the journalists were among the last who were reporting independently on the situation in the Gaza Strip. The Israeli authorities have not allowed foreign journalists into the area and visits by Israeli journalists are monitored by the authorities.
Journalist organizations, including the European Federation of Journalists (EFJ), have protested against the murder of their colleagues from Al Jazeera. Protests on this issue have also taken place in Israel.
We appeal to the European Union authorities to press the Israeli government to allow foreign journalists to report on events in the Gaza Strip.
We appeal to the Polish authorities to intervene with the government in Israel on the tragic situation in Gaza.
We appeal to Polish media to tell the truth about the unfolding situation in Gaza.
